"Tajikistan" litteraly means "the country of sun"...

This little mountainous country is the only state from the former Soviet Central Asia where the dominant language is not Turkish but Iranian, Tajik. The Tajiks form the majority ethnic group (72% of the population).

The current borders of Tajikistan dates back to the creation of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic in 1924 in the Soviet Union. The collapse of the USSR in 1991 led to the birth of the independent state of Tajikistan. The ensuing civil war lasted until 1997. Even today, the consequences are significant, and Tajikistan remains the poorest state in the former USSR, despite sustained growth.

After this political statement, let me say that Tajikistan is a paradise for Explorers who like nature, mountains, uncrowded spots and ruins (where you can visit vestiges of Alexander the Great and Sogdian empires)...
