If you want to know more about the Estonian architecture and visit a magnificient old industrial building, you should visit this museum!

My experience, Explo description:

The museum is located in the Rotermann’s Salt Storage building, a magnificent industrial building near Tallinn harbour.

It aims to collect, preserve, study, interpret and exhibit Estonian architecture. Most of the materials are from the 20th century.

The collection contains maps of Estonian towns and settlements, architectural drawings and projects, models, papers on architecture and town building, through the 20th century to the present day.

Have a look at the museum building, made of limestone. It was originally designed by Baltic German engineer Ernst Boustedt. It was then completed in 1908. During the sovietic era, the building was in a poor shape, but it was reconstructed in 1995-96 by architects Ülo Peil and Taso Mähar.

For Art Nouveau and Art deco amateurs, materials from the 1920s and 30s make the core of the collection. Also post-war architecture of the 1940s and 50s is relatively well represented.

For design and furniture amateurs, there is also a dedicated section.

My personal recommendations:

Have a look at the impressive models collection (almost 200!).

How getting there:

The Museum is located close to the Harbour and to the Rottermann Quarter district.
