A 19th century battery, with a very nice sight, and a nice walking tour.

My experience, Explo description:

This battery was built between 1889 and 1891.

The ruined barracks could host up to 250 men.

The cannons were disposed in dug slots on the top of the rock.

An additional battery was erected 100m south from the fort.

You can still see the protections grids on the sides of the main entrance.

There is a project to renovate this fort and to transform it into an information center about forests.

My personal recommendations:

Visiting this fort is a very good pretext for a nice tour walking tour on the ridge of the Gros Cerveau mountain, from the Fort du Gros Cerveau (overlooking Ollioules, 3.4km to go). Very nice views all along the way.

How getting there:

Once in Ollioules, follow the signs to the "Gros Cerveau". A road climbs up to there. Due to fire risks, it is not possible to access to its top in summer time.

A tip to eat:

Take a pic nic, and have a lunch while looking at the impressive sight!
