A 110m large crater made by an asteroid thousands years ago...

My experience, Explo description:

Wehn the meteorite stroke the Earth, the impact velocity was about 10-20 km / s and the mass was 20-80 tons.

At a height of 5-15m, the meteorite broke into pieces. The largest resulting fragment created the main crater, with a depth of 22 meters.

The explosion was comparable to the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. It destroyed everything within a 6km range.

This event has influenced the mythology of the region. The lake inside the crater is also known as the "holy lake", and there is archaeological evidence that the site was used for ritual sacrifices for many centuries. In the past, the lake was surrounded by a wall (470 meters long).

The spot is a bit touristic now...

My personal recommendations:

If you want, you can also look for the 8 other (much smaller, depth from 1 to 4m and diameter from 12 to 40m) impacts located around the Kaali village.

How getting there:

The crater is located about 12km from Kuressaare. Drive 10km (NE) on the road n°10 to Valjala. The you will see signs to the crater. Follow the little road going north for 2km.

A tip to eat:

There are 2-3 restaurants there. A bit touristic...

A tip to sleep:

In Kuressaare (there is also a campsite).
