A huge observation bunker emerging from the forest.

My experience, Explo description:

In 1962 Paldiski became a Soviet Navy nuclear submarine training centre, including 2 submarine reactors. Employing some 16,000 people, it was the largest such facility in the Soviet Union. Because of its importance, the whole city was closed off with barbed wire until the last Russian warship left in August 1994.

To protect the area, many bunkers were built every where on the peninsula. Most of them have been destroyed. But you can still observe some, like this observation tower.

There are no stairs left to access the top of the tower. You can still visit a small underground linking together the 3 bunkers of the position.

My personal recommendations:

Close to the bunkers, about 500m east, you can also visit an abandonned village (close to the wind farm).

How getting there:

Take the road to the Pakri cliffs, cape and lighthouse. 200m before the lighthouse, turn right.

A tip to eat:

In Paldiski. Only 1 restaurant...

A tip to sleep:

In Paldiski.

Useful information:
Open hours:

All day long.

Visit duration:

15 mn.

Entry fees:

Access security:

Beware the holes while walking on the ground!!! If you visit the position in summer time, the grass might easily hide the path, and I almost missed to fall 2 times in bunker holes!!
