This church is only locally renown. Nice Explo, sympathetic but could be more singular!

A classic Russian style Orthodox church.

My experience, Explo description:

This church was built in 1778. At that time, it was as simple wooden building, along the main road from Riga to Moscow.

Unfortunately, the church burnt in 1812 and was rebuilt in 1818 in a traditional Russian Church style. It then became one of the most important Orthodox church of Riga (and still is).

Because of the holy icon of Nicholas it is called among people as "У Николушки" (By Nicholas).

But locals more simply nickname it "Market Church" (as Central Market is just 5 minutes walk from here).

How getting there:

Gogola str. 9.
Close to the famous Academy of Science soviet skyscraper.

A tip to sleep:

Hotel Tiger (cheap, central and clean).
