One of the most beautiful train station in the world.

My experience, Explo description:

Antwerp Central railway station (Antwerpen-Centraal) is one of the most impressive and beautiful railway stations in Europe, if not in the World. The railway station was built between 1895 and 1905 (by the Bruges architect L. Delacenserie) and replaced a wooden train station built in 1854. There are three levels of tracks and a shopping center which includes a diamond gallery with more than 30 diamond shops.

The train station is covered by a wonderful dome (185m long and 44m high).

Low level platforms have recently (1998-2007) been built (at enormous cost : 1.6 billions euros) to allow trains to run through a new tunnel under the city centre, but the original, high-level terminus platforms still remain.

My personal recommendations:

I have heard it is possible to visit the dome with a guide. Call for the train station general information no: 0032 2 528 28 28 / 0032 2 555 25 25 for dial phones)

How getting there:
