An impressive coastal defence system, defending the entrance of the Rotterdam harbour.

My experience, Explo description:

The Hoek van Holland fortress was built by the German during WW2. This fortress aimed at defending the entrance of the Rotterdam harbour (with also an important anti aircraft system with flak bunkers). It was made of 60 bunkers... Almost 1/2 of them still remain.

Walk in the dunes around and look for the vestiges.

My personal recommendations:

I did visit the museum. But as I know, you should make a call before getting there and ask for a guided tour. Visit the museum website for more information: http://www.atlantikwall-museum.nl/index.html

How getting there:

Address:
Noorderpier
Koningin Emmaboulevard nabij nr. 5)
3151 HG Hoek van Holland

Park your car close to the semaphore. Then walk along the pier. You will see the museum bunker. From there, you can walk into the wood and discover some other bunkers of the defence point.

A tip to eat:

Many frituur around ;)
