A nice (but touristic) walk through the vestiges of an old industrial project.

My experience, Explo description:

Villeneuvette is a small village in the heart of the Herault department. Its foundation dates from the 17th century. This village was actually a factory. th century, Colbert (industry minister of King Louis 14th) decided to build there the royal cloth factory for the king and the royal troops.

The factories were in use until the mid-1950s. Since, some parts of the village have been abandonned. Some other have been restored.

What a pleasure to stroll under the shade of platane trees in the narrow streets of this village.

Do not miss to visit the remains irriguation system. All the hill around are full of abandonned aqueducts, canals, because water was the "oil" of the textile industry. Some tours are organized by the office tourism board. I highly recommend it to you.

My personal recommendations:

Go at the rear side of the village. It is still abandonned and not renovated. You will see an important canal, a huge fountain, and the remains of the factories. Access to the ruins is forbidden. But who knows ;)

Else, go exploring the canals in the hills!

How getting there:

Follow the signs to Villeneuvette.

A tip to eat:

There are 2 (touristic) restaurants in the village.

A tip to sleep:

As I remember, there is one hotel and 1 guesthouse in the village.
