Much more than a musuem, to see Marrakech from the late 19th century... and from above.

My experience, Explo description:

This house is not another common musuem.
First, the pictures are quite old and give another view of the country you are visiting. You can see pictures of the Morocco from the time it was open to strangers, that means 1870. Then you see the first color-pictures from the early 20th. And finally, you can watch a documentary of the 1950's about Moroccan life at this time.
Second, the place is beautiful. The photography museum was set in an old "foundouk" (a place where people used to sell products and to sleep when coming from faraway places) which was totally restored. The atmosphere is quiet and cosy, which is very pleasant compared to Marrakech's agitation.
Third, you can enjoy a splendid view from the terrasse, while drinking an avocado juice or tasting a tajine.

Copies of the magazine "L'illustration" from the early 20th century, in the second floor.

The above terrasse from wich you can admire Marrakech and the Atlas. You can also have a drink or eat a morrocan specialty, laying in the poufs.

Local people who like to talk with visitors and tell stories about their country.

The temporary exhibition in the last floor. It can make you discover a very talented local artist.

My personal recommendations:

Go there in the end of the morning to have your lunch on the terrasse.
Discuss with the guy at the entrance who loves to talk about his country with strangers.

How getting there:

Once in the medina of Marrakech, go till the Medersa Ben Youssef which is quite famous. The house of the photography is just close and indicated on a few signs (see the last picture of this explo to get the details).
The exact adress is 46, rue Ahal Fès, in Marrakech.

A tip to eat:

On the terrasse! For instance, try the kitchen Tajine.

A tip to sleep:

Try the avocado juice or the always welcome frech orange juice.
