My experience, Explo description: 

With 420 million tons of cargo handled (2008), the port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe and the 2nd largest port in the world, behind that of Tokyo. Till 2002, it was even the largest port in the world.

The port of Rotterdam has existed since the 14th century. At first, it was just a little fisherman port on the banks of the Rotter river.

With the spido boat tour, it is possible to make a tour of the port infrastructures.

How getting there: 

Starting point is at under the Erasmus bridge (Willemsplein).

A tip to sleep: 

If you really like boats, you can even sleep in the SS Rotterdam (also known as "The Grande Dame") launched in 1958, and now converted into a nice hotel on the 3e Katendrechtse Hoofd 25, 3072 AM Rotterdam.

You can access there with Spido shuttle transfer.
