Acequias is a lovely and lonely village, perched on a mountain close to the Acequias ruins.

My experience, Explo description:

This typical village was founded after the destruction of the old Acequias village due to earthquake and land slides on the 19th century.

Have a look at the church, and to the close little museum.

Go to visit the close ruins of Acequias (1h walk)

My personal recommendations:

I was there at the end of the afternoon, when the air is fresher. As the village is really high, it is sometimes lost in the middle of clouds and fog. There is not much to do in the village : just stay at the posada and enjoy the slow pace of life.

How getting there:

You can’t go there on your own : the access track is in a very bad shape. You will need a 4*4 car, and good driving skills. From Merida, the drive is 2-3h long. Ask in Merida if a shuttle can drive you there.

For more details, I advise you to contact a travel agency in Merida. I did go with Guillermo "El Grillo" from Xtreme adventure tours. He is very friendly. Av. 8 con Calle 24, Parque Las Heroinas, Local 8-45, Merida. Cel : 0424 702 34 64

A tip to sleep:

There are 2 posadas in the village (on the northern side of the village, close to the "police station").
