Painted by Claude Monet, the Port-Coton rock needles (Les Aiguilles de Port Coton) are one of the most magical places of Belle-Ile.

My experience, Explo description:

Claude Monet described the Aiguilles de Port-Coton with folloowing words : "This is sinister, diabolical, but superb and I do not find elsewhere such thing". This place not only inspired Monet, but also Matisse, Auburtin...
Monet stood 2 months in Kervilahouen and he produced 39 paintings (6 of them are devoted to the Port-Coton needles).

Australian painter Russell built a mansion on the coast, where the musician Albert Roussel was used to go for vacation during the summers 1912 and 1913. He wrote there several music works.

Needles have also inspired Victor Hugo, which makes an epic description in « Les travailleurs de la mer » (Workers of the sea).

In the cove of Port-coton, you can see the rocky needles with martyred shapes standing against the sea elements. The highest needle is 42m high. Some are pierced or form arches. There are also several caves, but most of them are accessible only by boat or at low tide.

During stormy weather, the rocky needles are swept by the winds and waves, projecting dross like a veil of cotton... Hence the name! The show is beautiful, great site!

My personal recommendations:

You must absolutely see the needles in the sunset, which causes stunning light effects.

How getting there:

A road leads directly above the needles. From Bangor, go through Kervilahouen and continue after the thalassotherapy center, up to the car park.
