12th century church, mixing the Romanic and the Gothic styles.

My experience, Explo description:

At the beginning of the 10th century, Lord Guy de Lastours and his wife founded a small monastery, hosting the relics of Saint-Pardoux.

The church was rebuilt in the 12th century. It is striking by its severe appearance and its impressive dimensions.

Its 13th century Gothic portal is decorated with archaic capitals and medallions. Above it, 3 niches shelter statues : Holy Virgin at the centre surrounded by 2 Apostles of Limousin area, Saint-martial (left) and Saint-Pardoux (right).

Inside the chapel, interesting capitals can be distinguished :

a man surrounded by 2 lions. This theme is included 3 times in Arnac. It may be Daniel in the Lion’s Den.
Zacchaeus call (Saint Luc, 19, 1-10) : The Christ invites the tax collector to go down from the tree and stay with him.
The Saint Martial miracle with the resurrection of the son of Limoges Governor !

The choir is remarkable by its clarity. It has a broad cloverleaf shaped apse.

It contains a large wooden painted Christ, with Iberian inspiration (14th century).
