Around Memorial of «Le Linge»  (see related article), 2 military cemeteries keep the sad memory of the hard fightings of 1915 and the tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths: the French national necropolis (Col Wettstein) with its 3,535 white crosses and, on the other hand, the German cemetery of the Bärenstall with its 2,438 black crosses.

My experience, Explo description:

See « Le Linge » article.

Surrounded by a small wall of stones covered with lichen, the German cemetery is a great sobriety. Large pines did grow in the middle of it. The atmosphere is both serene and pastoral, little less formal than on the French side because the tombs are less tight, and despite the black colour of the crosses.

On the German tombs are engraved the name and the soldier feature, not his rank : all men become equal after the death. On the French side on the contrary, there is a very military rigidity and grade always appears prominently...

Horodberg-Linge discovery trail. Astonishing trip leading you through trenches, bunkers and shelters in the footsteps of this bloody battle with many vestiges...

Baerenstall cemetery, take the path that goes to the Schratzmaennele. Visit the shelters and the career. Follow the ridge to the South to Barrenkopf (blockhouse) then Kleinkopf (shelters). Down to the TV antennas and road (orientation table). Follow the road to Hohrod and before the hairpin bend curve, turn back to the North in the direction of Glasborn (farm-hostel). Visit the shelters of the sector (Côte 941) and join the road leading to to the Memorial. Interesting visit.

From there, German cemetery is just 10 minutes away
.
For more sport fans, from Glasborn farm, you can make a round trip to the Wettstein French cemetery : add one and half hour.

A tip to eat:
