The latest art museum of Madrid cultural district (near the Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums) is also an interesting building from an architectural point of view...

My experience, Explo description:

The Caixa Forum building is an old 1899 power station redesigned by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. The building is a really representative example of industrial architecture : 19th-century brick walls have been retained, but raised on piers so that visitors can walk underneath the building.
The stairs inside the museum are also really impressive and are worth to be seen.

Do not also miss to check out the 24-metre high vertical garden that takes up one wall of the square in front of the building. Comprising 15,000 plants of 250 different species, it has being designed by the French botanist Patrick Blanc. This garden symbolizes a bridge with the botanical garden on the opposite side of the Paseo del Prado.

Have a look at the touring art exhibits.

My personal recommendations:

While many museums in Madrid have not really practical opening hours, the Caixa Forum is open every day from 10:00am. to 10:00pm. : it is nice to get there when all other museums are closed !

The visit of the museum is not too long and it can be combined with a tour to the Prado and the other neighbouring museums.

How getting there:

Metro : Atocha, línea 1
Autobuses : Líneas 10, 14, 27, 34, 37 and 45

A tip to eat:

Go to the restaurant on the top of the museum.

A tip to sleep:

Why not sleeping in Madrid huh ?
