Nice citadel close to the Plaza de Armas.

My experience, Explo description: 

The oldest fortress of the country was built on from January 1558 (by King Felipe II) to protect the city from pirates (mostly French). With its large white stones and its moat, it took 19 years of hard work to complete it...

Today the fortress hosts a museum of contemporary Cuban ceramics, with beautiful rooms.

My personal recommendations: 

If you look up, you can see the Tower of Hope, which was added in 1632. It is topped by a reproduction of the oldest bronze statue of Cuba : the famous weathervane « Giraldilla », that symbolizes the city and can be seen on each label of Havana Club rum bottles.

How getting there: 

Easy. Just north from the Plaza de Armas.

A tip to sleep: 

In Havana Vieja.
