Pompadour is famous in France, due to its Marquise, who was the "favourite" of King Louis XV in 1745.

Its stud is even more famous for the quality of its horses, and its yearly horse riding and racing competition.

My experience, Explo description:

The castle was given by Louis XV to his favourite, Jeanne Poisson, knighted Marquise. But she almost never lived in the castle. The Marquise de Pompadour was not only beautiful, but she also had spirit and artistic gouts.

Although born into a family of opportunists, she held a lounge (Salon in French) and received even protest philosophers and practised philanthropy.

Later, Choiseul bought the Pompadour domain and created the national stud and horse farm.

After the French Revolution damage, Napoleon Bonaparte created the "Orangerie" for the needs of his light cavalry and the stud (haras in French) became a State property.

Pompadour Castle is located on a prominent that dominates the race track.

It is an impressive construction of the 15th century, with round towers with "pepper" roofs. The buildings are connected by curtains. Roofs are based on a machicolation line.

The castle is currently inhabited by the stud (haras) officers.

You will enter into the castle by a monumental entry enclosed by 2 large round towers.

The gardens :
In the English style park, you can observe huge trees. The framework is very green. A large terrace faces the vast race track, where you can see horses training.
