Cuenca is one of the most beautiful Spanish medieval cities, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. It is perched on a fairly steep rocky hill, at the confluence of Xúquer river and its tributary river: the Huécar gorges

Among the monuments of Cuenca, you should visit the Cathedral, built in Anglo-Norman Gothic style (an unique example in Spain) and the Casas Colgadas: suspended houses constructed above the vacuum...

My experience, Explo description:

On the 12th century, Eleonore Plantagenet (1162-1214, wife of Alphonso VIII) moved her court to Cuenca for 10 years. This is the origin of the Anglo-Norman Gothic appearance of the town buildings.

Cathedral Nuestra Señora of Gracia :

The construction of the cathedral stretches from 1196 to 1257, in plain Romanic period.

The façade is inspired by the Reims Cathedral in France.

Many additions took place thereafter, but the Cathedral was never completed. 2 lateral towers are still missing.

Diocesan Museum :
It contains paintings of Le Greco and old tapestries.

How getting there:

The museum and the cathedral are located close to the Plaza Mayor.
