In the historic cradle of Vegueta, the Cathedral of Santa Anna is adjacent to the Museo Diocesano, which is installed around the patio de Los Naranjos and is devoted to religious art.

My experience, Explo description:

The construction of the Santa Anna Cathedral began at the beginning of the 16th century. it was completed in 1750. The duration of its construction led a mixture of architectural styles.

The neo-classical front side is gray, austere and a little sad.

The inside is bright, with a very special Gothic style, sometimes called "Atlantic Gothic". Please note on top the complicated drawings with the arch ribs.

On the top of the altar, the altarpiece is Catalan, whereas the lustre has been manufactured in Genoa.

The access to the Tower (1.50 €) allows a beautiful panoramic city view.

The Southern wing of the Cathedral hosts the Diocesan Museum of sacred art. It is located around Los Naranjos patio.

Old seat of the Inquisition, this Museum presents a collection of documents (handwritten) and objects (sculptures, pieces) from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

In the chapter room, you can see an especially realistic Luján Pérez Christ and a remarkable mosaic from of Manises (province of Valencia).

How getting there:

The Santa Anna Cathedral is located in the old historic district of Vegueta, South of the capital.
