Chrissi Island is a small island with two beaches made of shells. It stands 15km (S) from Ierapetra. The island is the most southern natural park of Europe.

My experience, Explo description:

The island of Chrissi (it means "the golden island in Greek") is 5 km long and has a cedar forest in the centre. Otherwise, Chrissi is also known as "the Donky Island : Gaidouronissi". It is fringed by 2 beaches (Belegrina at the north) on each side of the island. The island is not inhabited.

My personal recommendations:

At the western side of the island, there’s a white little church (Aghios Nicalaos). This church was built at the 13th century. Not far from the church, you can check out some old Roman carved graves, as well the old lighthouse. It’s a great walk to get there.

How getting there:

First, come to Ierapetre, then you can take a shuttle to the island. From May to October, there is a daily shuttle to the island departing from Ierapetra at 10:30am and 12.30pm. Return trips are around 17:00pm and 18:00pm. The trip is about 1h long.

A tip to sleep:

You can stay in Ierapetra.
