Situated 100m above of the sea, at the bottom of a valley, the small battery of Figuerolles is less exposed than its neighbour (the battery of Niolon). Nested on the side of a hill surrounded by a nice landscape, it can be the aim of an attractive trip.

My experience, Explo description:

This small battery was built in 1890. It was equipped with 3 "270mm" mortars. At WWII, it was then used as an artillery store in 1939.

The sight over the sea

From the fort, you can see the Corbière battery (2km NE, close to the sea).

My personal recommendations:

For adventurous ones, go to the sea. For others, this is a good place to visit while a mountain bike trip in neighbouring hills and to the Niolon battery (2km SO). If you are there for lunch or at night, go to restaurants at Niolon village (nice little port).

How getting there:

By car, 20mn from Marseille. You need to park on the Niolon road, not really far from the crossroad with the D5 road. From there, plan a 1 hour walk to the fort.

A tip to sleep:

You can stay in Marseille.
