The old ruins of a spanish fort, and the vestiges of a WW1 battery, lost on a hill with dense vegetation.

My experience, Explo description:

Built from 1603 by Spanish Governor Pedro Enriquez de Acevedo, Count of Fuentes, the fort aimed at facing the threatening neighbourgs in a strategical zone controlling the access to the Como lake.

The fort was 300m long and 125m large, with a U shaped building, where were located the guards, the Governor palace, a church, a mill, a bakery, a few water tanks and underground storage facilities.

The fort has slightly been restored. The ambience is very green, with a nice view on the lake and the mountains.

My personal recommendations:

For WW1 amateur, you can walk 2 min to the northern side of the fort to see the vestiges of a WW1 artillery battery.

How getting there:

The fort is located 1,5km north-east from Colico city center. Cross the railtrack and go east. You might see some signs leading to the fort.

Take a pic nic!

Sleep in Colico or on the Como lake shores.
