This fort is very famous regionally. Else, very interesting, and can be visited in "off the path" conditions!

A unique fort, with a unique view from its dominant position on the Como lake and the Valtellina and Valchiavenna mountains. Some say it is the best preserved WW1 fortress in Europe...

My experience, Explo description:

This fort was part of the Italian defense line on the northern side of the country, called “Linea Cadorna".

Built into the rock, the fort is characterized by massive granite walls, many rooms and underground walkways, including a powder keg deeper than 60 meters!

The fort preserves not only the huge 149mm Schneider guns in armored domes, but also the electrical system and all windows and original armor, in addition to complex ventilation systems and water supply.

The pieces of artillery, with a range of over 14 km, were intended to control the Lower Valtellina, the Chiavenna Lower Valley and the northern portion of Como lake.

Don't miss the amazing view...

Have a look at the armored towers!

My personal recommendations:

Hum... if you miss the opening time, you can however visit the superstructures of the fort, even if it is forbidden! A little trail accesses to the fort, where you will be welcomed by 2 cool horses. You will do it at your own risk!

How getting there:

The fort is located on a hill 500m north from Colico. Once in the city center, go across the rail track. Then follow the signs.

A tip to eat:

Take a pic nic!

A tip to sleep:

In Colico, or on the shores of the Como lake!
