Most of Khorezm ruins are not in a really good shape. Ichan Kala is an abandoned little village, with its fortifications and its mosque, and it is well preserved!...

My experience, Explo description:

Ichan Kala means "the Fortress of elder people". This village has been abandoned 150 years ago...

The mosque, the little fortress and its walls, the mausoleum... Have a walk along the village little streets, and try to imagine how life was there 150 years ago...

My personal recommendations:

Get there on Fridays, when many local people come to the mosque : the place is very popular and folklorish...

How getting there:

By car or with a taxi from Nukus (25km, N). Take the road going to Chimbay. Just before getting to Khalkabad, turn right at the electricity transformer. Then drive 1.5km (E). By taxi, return ticket : 10$

A tip to sleep:

Nukus is the only place in the area with lodging facilities.
