Kyzyl Kala, Ancient Khorezm

Kyzyl Kala means "the red fortress".
This fortress is well preserved. Indeed, this fortress was not aimed at providing shelter to local population in case of attack : it was exclusively used as a garrison fort for Toprak kala (2km W) soldiers. Hence, its murals were built of 2 brick walls.
Usually, the soldiers were spending 1 week at the fort, then 1 week at Toprak Kala, then 1 week as peasants in the fields.
