Explo History and Description:

Behind the city hall (hotel de ville) stands La Treille park. It is a lovely south oriented and sunny square, overlooking the Bastions park (parc des Bastions). This is the most ancient walk of Geneva, created at the beginning of the XVIth century.

The square is lined by the longest bench of the world which is more than 120 metres long. It was built in 1767. It is made of 180 wooden boards.

By the way, this world record is contested : many people indeed consider that the longest bench is located in Marseille (France) : it is a concrete bench going along the "Corniche", overlooking the sea...

The Treille walk is decorated with many old chestnut trees. One of them (on the east side of the square) is the official "Spring tree" : when it gets its first leaf, the Spring season is officially declared in Geneva.

My experience and personal tips:

This bench is a good place for a picnic. Do not hesitate to walk to the parc des Bastions, or, much closer, to have a look at the Hotel de Ville (50m north going on the "rampe de la Treille" street) to observe its nice and curious horse ramp...
