Interesting contemporary urbanism realization due to Renzo Piano.

My experience, Explo description:

On the abandoned site of the former International Fair, the City of Lyon decided to be equipped of a set of structures allowing to welcome new international fairs. A competition was organized and won by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, associated with a landscape designer, Michel Corajoud.

The Cité International was conceived in accordance with its natural environment. Installed between the Rhône river and the Tête d’Or park, its buildings are arranged in a bow following the curve of the river, whereas the line of the roofs evoke the close park greenhouses.

The buildings occupy a surface of 224,000m2.

They gather a Conference hall, several hotels, a casino, a theatre, a residential area, business offices...

The INTERPOL (International Police Organization) world headquarters are also located there since 1990, bringing to the Cité International a real international status.

Have a walk in the inner street, which links all the different buildings together, to admire the place architecture.

My personal recommendations:

Have a look at the Cité International Museum of contemporary art.

How getting there:

Bus : 4 , C1 , 58

A tip to eat:

Many restaurants and cafés.

A tip to sleep:

Many hotels in the Cité Internationale, but they are really expensive !
