An impressive dam in the middle of Ciudad Guyana...

My experience, Explo description:

The Macagua Dam is made of 3 dams built on the Caroni river : Macagua I, II, III.

The Dam II is a unique case of a dam bypassing a natural jump. The fracture of the relief of this natural jump has natural waterfalls.

The Macagua I power plant diverts part of river flow and takes advantage of the natural slope of the relief.

Have a look at the Ecomuseo del Caroni, located on Macagua II Dam.

About 20km West, you can also have a look at the Caruachi Dam.

At least, 80km away from Ciudad Guyana, you can visit the Guri dam, which has the second biggest hydroelectric power plant of the world...

How getting there:

Take the highway (autopista) linking Puerto Ordaz to Ciudad Guyana.
