A unique vestige of a huge slave tower…

My experience, Explo description:

This Hacienda was founded in 1750 and bought in 1759 by Pedro Iznaga (who became rich with slave trade).

The tower is 45.5m high, with 7 floors. It was ericted to observe and control the slaves who were working in the sugar cane fields around the Hacienda... You can reach the top if you climb the 136 step stairs… From the top, you will have an amazing view over the valley. The tower is equiped with bell tolls which regulated the daily life in the sugarmill.

It is the tallest lookout tower ever kept in America and Carribbean sugar region.

My personal recommendations:

Have a look at the sugar mill at the rear side of the colonial house.

How getting there:

If you want, you can access to the Manaca Iznaga plantation by steam train from Trinidad.

Else, you must drive about 18km (East)

A tip to eat:

There is a restaurant in the colonial house (for lunch).
