My experience, Explo description: 

In 1987, the financial institution CAIXA sold the Monte Palace Hotel to a businessman Jose Berardo who gave it to his Foundation.
It’s like that the Monte Palace Tropical Garden was born.
Open to the Public since 1991, the garden lanes were adorned with pagodas, Buddhas, sculptures from different parts of the world, exotic plants

Don’t forget to see the different ceramic titles placed along the walkways and among the vegetation.

  • You can appreciate the different azulejos plans (from XV to XX centuries)
  • One panel relates the adventure of the Portuguese in Japan consists on an iron which are mounted of 166 plates.
  • One ceramic vase, the tallest in the world, is localised near the central lake.

About the Flora, you can appreciate the :

  • Orchids from Himalaya
  • Native exotic flowers
  • Cycads collection : One of the largest collections of cycads in the world, originating mainly from South Africa, is to be found in the Monte Palace Tropical Garden.

The Monte Palace Tropical Garden, benefiting from a privileged position near Funchal, allows for the enjoyment of a magnificent view, within a combination of nature, culture and art.
