Cuenca is one of the most beautiful Spanish medieval cities, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. It is perched on a fairly steep rocky hill, at the confluence of Xúquer river and its tributary river: the Huécar gorges.

Among the monuments of Cuenca, you should visit the Cathedral, built in Anglo-Norman Gothic style (an unique example in Spain) and the Casas Colgadas: suspended houses constructed above the vacuum...

My experience, Explo description:

The Casas Colgadas de Cuenca are medieval houses, which were restored in the 20th century to adapt today’s new uses. They now proudly exhibit their wooden balconies, overlooking the Huécar canyon.

You can only visit 3 of them : La Casa of the Sirena is a 3-storey popular house. It is currently a hostel.

The Casas del Rey are medieval buildings of the 14th-15th century, they were also renovated on the 20th century to adapt to modern life.

Inside are preserved the remains of murals. A very beautiful renaissance portal has been added from the Peñuela Villarejo Palace.

Currently the Casas del Rey host a valuable collection of abstract art and paintings gathered by the painter Fernando Zóbel.

Juan March started to gather objects for his collection during the seventies. His foundation received a decisive impulse when Fernando Zóbel (creator of the Museum of Abstract Art), donated his private collection of works to the Juan March Foundation.

My personal recommendations:

Even if I am not fanatical of abstract art, I recommend the visit to the Museum for at least 2 reasons :

(1) the beauty of the scene, remarkably restored
(2) the very impressive view from windows which dominate the Huecar
