An odd memorial park celebrating a famous Thai victory against Burma.

My experience, Explo description:

The Nine Army Battle (1795) is the name given to the defence of the Thai Kingdom by Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I) against an invasion by King Bodawpaya of Burma. This victory (and particularly in the Ladya Field battle : here at the historical park) enabled Thailand to preserve its sovereignty till today and is remembered as one of the great victory for the country.

During the battle, 70,000 Thai soldiers faced 144,000 Burmese foot-soldiers and cavalry...

The building of the memorial started in 1999. The site serve as a centre for historical research and conservative tourism for everyone.

The main building hosts dioramas, VCD and a sand table displaying the supposed approach of enemy troops with the major battlefields.

After visiting the main building, go up the stairs to the observation tower. This place is situated on a hill used to observe the terrain the approach of the Burma army.

You will enjoy a nice view over the whole battlefield.

My personal recommendations:

Get there 1 hour before the closure of the museum. Then, once you have visited it, the place will be empty and you will be able to go to the observation tower to enjoy the view and the place ambiance.

How getting there:

Take the 3199 (north) from Kanchanaburi and drive about 40km. The historical park is about 3km before (on the left) the Erawan waterfalls junction and the dam.

A tip to sleep:

No place to sleep. Go to Kanchanaburi.
