On the eastern bank of the Nam Ou bridge in Nong Kiaow, you can see an abandoned bunker.

My experience, Explo description:

This bunker seems to be posterior to the second Indochina War and might have been used as a police check point to secure the eastern side of the bridge.

My personal recommendations:

If you are interested in military history, do not forget to go to visit the Tham Pha Tok caves, just 2.5km (E) from there. These caves were used by villagers to hide out during the second Indochina war.

Nong Kiaow is a good place, with many guest houses and backpackers. You can easily stay there and use this village as a base to visit Muang Noi and the neighbourhoods.

How getting there:

The bunker is close to the bridge, in the village. To get to Nong Kiaw, take buses on the Road N°1. Or take a speedboat from Luang Prabang.

A tip to eat:

Many restaurants around
