A 300m long dam, located 6km far from the confluence of the Mekong and Mun River.

My experience, Explo description:

The Mun River, sometimes spelled Moon River, is a tributary of the Mekong river. It carries approximately 21,000 cubic kilometres of water per year....

The Mekong River is one of the world’s major rivers. It is the 12th-longest river in the world, and 7th longest in Asia.

The dam was constructed by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), a state enterprise that owns and manages the majority of Thailand’s electricity generation capacity...

The construction was completed in 1994, but the project has been criticised for adverse effects on the fisheries of the Mun River, insufficient compensation payments to affected villagers, and failure to produce the projected power output.

It is possible to drive along the top of the dam wall if you want to visit it.

Have a look at the fish ladder, on the side of the dam.

My personal recommendations:

Have a look at the dam when you have finished visiting the close Don Tana cataract.

How getting there:

From Khong Chiam, follow the signs (Rd 2173) to Don Tana, and then you will the see indications to go to the dam (2km from Don Tana to the dam).

A tip to eat:

No place to eat at the dam. However, you can eat at Don Tana.

A tip to sleep:

Sleep in Khong Chiam.
