Impressive ruins of a Priory!

My experience, Explo description:

The Benedictine Priory was founded in 988.

It depended on the powerful Abbey of Cluny.

It was one of the most important of the Haute-Provence area (with Ganagobie Priory). The priory golden age was between the 12th and the 13rd centuries. It was burned in 1574 during the Religion wars by the troops of Dupuy de Montbrun.

Of the large church does only remain today some ruins: the two lateral façades of the nave and the choir.

The church was partly built in sandstone. It is remarkable for its decorative sculptures of the 12th century (romano-provençal style).

In the old cellar can see colored tiles and Romanic sculptures, which were discovered in the Church.

The Priory was classified in the inventory of historic monuments in 1987.

The village retains in its little streets many vestiges of the past time: columns, carved stones, doors, plots...
