A charming colonial town, away from the touristis tracks.

My experience, Explo description:

Located 50 km from Santa Clara, Remedios is a very charming little town. Still away from touristic tracks, it is an unusual interesting stopover. You will find peace and authenticity. Wit its narrow cobblestone streets with horse carts, Cuba is there revealed again. Remedios is also on the road to the lonely Cayo Santa Maria islands.

Make a little tour walk around the Plaza Marti square.

You can visit the 2 churches located around the square : the Parroquia de San Juan Bautista de Remedios and the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Buen Viaje.

At night, the Parroquia San Juan Bautista’s altar is transformed into a cinema screen. Go there to watch movies.

My personal recommendations:

If you have the opportunity, do not hesitate to stay there for Christmas, for its unique Parrandas (last week of december). You will enjoy impressive dance and fireworks contests.

How getting there:

Remedios is about 3-4h drive from La Havana.

A tip to eat:

I would say the best is to make a stop at the « Louvre » cafe and just look at the square life while having a mojito…

A tip to sleep:

There are many casas particulares in the town. Plenty of choice.
