The site, very accessible, can be the aim of a very easy trip close to the sea.

My experience, Explo description:

During the second world war, the Germans have built bunkers along the rail road line between Marseille and Martigues to protect it. It is nowadays not rare to find vestiges near the rail road engineering piece of works.

Close to Le Rove rail station area, the bunkers density is particularly important : the Germans decided to settle there a curious and powerful battery. This battery is situated straight from the rail road. It consist of 4 artillery shelters (of 122mm) dug into the rock.

Go up to the observation bunker located a few dozens meters above the battery : it has preserved its original camouflage.

My personal recommendations:

Take advantage of the situation to go down swimming at one of the creeks down the path (100m NE, or 100m SW from the battery).

How getting there:

Park your car at Le Rove rail station. From there, walk 5 minutes to the west along the rail road (there is not a lot traffic on it, but be careful). 5mn west from Marseille.

A tip to sleep:

You can stay in Marseille.
