One of the most popular rides in Caracas. From Altamira urban district to the Sabas Nieves rangers station, every day, hundreds and hundreds of Cariocas come for exercise or a short walk... I did really like it!

My experience, Explo description:

La Avila is the huge mountain on the northern side of Caracas. The Sabas Nieves trail is just a very little portion of the numerous tracks and trails you can enjoy to discover this mountain.

The walk is just 1h to go up, and 30mn to do down.

Many stops on the way to admire the viewpoints.

You can stop at the ranger station, where there is a water fountain, and instruments to exercise muscles. Most of the people stop there and go down. If you continue up to the mountain, you are entering into the wild part of the massif and the trails are much longer and difficult.

From Sabas Nieves, you can go up to the Pico Occidental, and from there reach the Pico El Avila. There, you can take the cabin cars (teleferico) to go down to Caracas, and a taxi to go back to the Sabas Nieves if you left your car there.

This is a really nice walk, with impressive views on Caracas. But I advise to wake up really early, and be in a good physical condition, because this tour is hard and long. (See the joined map).

My personal recommendations:

Part of the folklore is to make a stop at the beginning of the Sabas Nieves trail. There stand dozens of little shops where you can buy fodd and fresh fruit juices...

How getting there:

Sabas Nieves starting point is on Av. Boyaca, Altamira district. You can park your car in the neighbourhood streets.

A tip to eat:

Take some food in one of the little shops at the entrance of the trail.
