The most amazing Neo-Gothic church in La Havana.

My experience, Explo description:

The church is also called Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús y del San Ignacio de Loyola, or Iglesia de Reina.

The Jesuits, who needed a place where they could gather, decided to build the church in 1907. The idea of a huge Gothic building caused fears and opposition because of the usual hurricane that hit the island. A Jesuit monk of Basque origin, an expert in construction, volunteered for the task, together with the architect Eugenio Dediot.

The church was built between 1914 and 1923, with white marble and huge stained glass windows.

Try to go up to the top of the bell tower : the church is one of the highest of the city. The bell tower is about 50m high, with a very nice viewpoint all around the city.

For lazy ones, you can just enjoy the quietness of the inside and have a look at the organ, which is one of the most elegant of Cuba.

How getting there:

The church is located at the intersection between the Simon Bolivar Avenue and Calle Padre Varella.
