St Cyr la Roche owe its fame to a 15th century church, with classified stained glass, as well as its pilgrimage (September).

My experience, Explo description:

17km Northwest from Brive, Saint-Cyr-the-Roche is established on a hill dominating the Mayne river, which marks the eastern limit of the commune.

Sainte-Julitte, Saint-Cyr parish church, seems to be built on the vestiges of an ancient castle.

It was rebuilt at the end of the 15th century, with recovery stones, as certifies it the random presence of green sandstone stones in the walls, which have greater hardness and were rather used as angle or arrow slits.

This vaulted church was classified as an historic monument in 1840, due to its stained glass, representing a crucifixion, probably dating from the same period.
The stained glass "du coup de Lance" (Lance stroke) is situated on the southern wall of the choir. It is 1.20m high and 1.60m wide). It offers an admirable composition as well as remarkable colours.

Characters that are staged are dressed with medieval costumes : you can admire their bright full colours : green, blue, red, gold...

The manor beside the church belonged to the Pompadour family, who were Saint-Cyr barons. It was sold by Jean III in 1656 to Jean Pascarel de Laplace, an ancestor of the current owner.

The square tower of the 14th century was opened in the 16th century, at the end of the Wars of religion. At the summit stands a small oratory.

The enclosure has been maximized probably during the Wars of religion, to protect the entrance of the church by a arrow slit. Saint-Cyr was at the time the most southern possession of the (Catholic) Pompadour warlords, who were fighting against the Lords of Turenne (Protestant).

Within the manor, you can admire a wonderful staircase. The ceiling has the form of an overturned boat carina.

In 1967, a small treasure in Gold Louis coins was found in an old cupboard : the owner of premises, the former mayor of the village during the French revolution, had clearly not changed its gold in assignats (the new revolutionary money).
