An unknown 100m deep cave covered with Buddha statues... No lights: a monk will unlock the door and guide you through the cave with a torch... A strange place and a great souvenir!

My experience, Explo description: 

The Wat Tham Xieng Maen was founded in 1889 and since abandoned. It is located in a cave called Tham Sakkarin Savannakuha.

At the entrance of the cave, you can notice ruined spirit houses among frangipani trees.

My personal recommendations: 

First, you need to go to Wat Long Khun to ask for a monk to guide you inside the cave.

How getting there: 

The cave is located about 200m (NE) from Wat Long Khun.

Ask for a boat to bring you there and pick you up back to Luang Prabang : $2 per person. That’s quite expensive for such a short cruise !

A tip to eat: 

There is a little local restaurant with a terrace overlooking the river, down the stairs of the Wat Chom Phet, on the same bank about 400m (SW) from the cave.
