A ghost Air Base... And its museum...

My experience, Explo description:

Vandel Air Base closed in June 2003. It’s now being used for events like Hangarfestival and various car shows etc.

In the base, there is a museum, located in a 250m2 nuclear bomb safe squadron bunker from the Danish air force.

The exhibition tells the story about Vandel air base from 1943 (when the German Luftwaffe settled a first base) up to 2003, when the government decided to close down the base for savings reasons. Then, the squadron was transferred to Karup air base.

Else, you can drive around the base, looking at all the abandoned bunkers and buildings.

My personal recommendations:

After this visit, you can go to the Legoland park, which is very close (Billund, 5km NW)

How getting there:

The base is 0.5km (S) from Vandel (5 km (SE) from Billund) : once you are in Vandel village, go west on the Grindstedvej and, before reaching the road circle to Billund, make a left on the base road.
