The largest and one of the most extraordinary Venetian 'Villas'

Explo History and Description:

The Contarini is a grandiloquent baroque style villa ( also called villa Simes). The current villa is the result of the transformation of a villa initially conducted by Andrea Palladio (in 1540) for Paolo Contarini and his brothers.

At the end of the 17th century, Marc Contarini did achieve any significant transformations and enlargements, adding wings on both sides of the villa.

In the second half of the 19th century, the Camerini family restored the villa, then in ruins, bringing back to the building its lost lustre.

The villa served as decoration for the movie "Dimmi che fai tutto per mi sorti" (Pasquale Festa Campanile, 1976).

In front of the villa stands a huge open area surrounded by a colonnade. It gives the house its monumental and majestic character. The transition between the villa and the public area of Piazzola sul Brenta is an interesting work planning.

The huge villa presents endless enfilades of richly decorated rooms with frescoes and paintings by Giulio Romano and Carracci brothers.

Rooms acoustics is unique, especially the "guitar hall" and the auditorium with its central well. The villa has been designed for music by Marc Contarini. It is still used today for concerts and recordings.

Tiepolo fresco represents "The visit of Henry III to Villa Contarini". It has been removed during the 19th century and is currently at the Jacquemart-Andre Museum in Paris...

At the rear of the villa extends a 50 hectares park with ponds, lakes and lined fairways of trees.

The villa Contarini is the seat of Foundation Ghirardi, who is a medical referred non profit organization. The events which take place in villa Contarini aim to maintain the villa itself and promote institutional objectives of the Ghirardi Foundation. The villa is open every day of the week and is the ideal place for exhibitions, conferences, cultural and commercial events.
