The most famous of Palladiana villas, with the purest style.

Explo History and Description:

The Rotonda is also called Almerico-Capra villa. The villa was built by Almerico. At his death, his family sold the villa to the Capra family. For 200 years, it belongs to the Valmarana family.

Its construction began in 1566, but will be completed only after the death of the architect in 1580.

Palladio architecture characteristic due to a perfect geometry. The plan easily combines a round, a square and a cross and creates bright and ventilated spaces. It has been often imitated : there are four copies in England, one in Stockholm and one in Saint-Petersburg.

The Rotonda served as a framework for the shooting of the film "Don Giovanni" (J. Losey).

The interior decoration is great wealth. The dome frescoes are painted by Maganza and the others by Canera.

The garden and the park integrate the villa in the countryside south of Vicenze, with a view on the Monte Berico basilica.

The statues were realized by Albanese and Rubini.

How getting there:

From Vicenza, take South (highway S 247) direction Riviera Berica - Longare.
Take Viale Margherita, then at the roundabout the via Borgo Berga on 1200m and finally the via della Rotonda.

Villa Valmarana is just 5 minutes walk from the villa La Rotonda, and best to park in the Valmorana because parking to the Rotonda is difficult.

THE SMALL PATH THAT CONNECTS THE 2 VILLAS IS DELICIOUS.
