A little house and museum showing you how life was west from Allghany Mountains 3 centuries ago...

My experience, Explo description:

The William Whitley House is also known as Sportsman’s Hill. This was the first brick house built west from the Allghany mountains...
At that time, the area was really not secure, but during the 1780s and the 1790s, the Whitleys however wanted to settle here.

My personal recommendations:

Do not hesitate to ask for a guided tour. Usually there are not so many tourists and the house keeper will be happy to drive you around the museum to show you different details of the Whitley family life, including a gun that killed dozens of men...

How getting there:

By car. William Whitley House is about 10 miles south of Stanford off US 150. Exit I-75 at US 150 or take US 27 south from Lexington to US 150 east.

A tip to sleep:

Lexington is the closest big city.
